The University of Nairobi Student Leaders Association (UNSA) has strongly condemned the Nullification of the election results for West Kasipul Ward, Homabay County that had declared their alumni Hon. Vickins Bondo as the winner.

Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi, the Secretary General for UNSA Vincent Nyakwach said that the Nullification was an underhanded tactic to intimidate young ambitious leaders who are ready to take the reins of leadership thus going against the principles of democracy and undermining the efforts of the youth to participate in the democratic process.

“It is our stand as UoN Students that the will of the people must be respected. We stand for a free and fair election process and we will continue to advocate for the rights of our youth to lead. Young people should be allowed to lead and their voices must be heard without fear of having their leaders removed from office through questionable means,” he said.

Mr. Nyakwach called upon stakeholders to work together to ensure that the rights of the youth are respected and their choices are upheld.

“The future of the nation lies in the hands of the youth and it is important that they are given opportunities to lead. We will continue to support our own and advocate for the rights of the youth to participate in the political process,” he Said.

This comes after the Oyugis Law Court on Wednesday Feb, 1 nullified the elections results of West Kasipul Ward member of county assembly (MCA) Hon. Vickins Bondo.

His competitor Peter Ongili had lodged a petition disputing his election in the august 9, 2022 general elections.

Hon Bondo, who vied as an independent candidate was declared the winner after garnering 4041 votes against Ongili of ODM who bagged 3890 votes.

Justice Bernard Owansa who presided over the case, directed the IEBC to conduct a fresh election as stipulated in the law.
