The National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon.(Dr) Moses Wetang’ula says the government will install a new and modern mill at Nzoia Sugar factory as a part of the measures being taken to revive the ailing company.
Speaker Wetang’ula said the new mill will stabalise the operation of the sugar factory and improve on its crushing capacity.
“As leaders from the County we met thr president Dr. William Ruto who promised that the factory will have a new crushing mill. I want to announce that the deal has been sealed and the machine will be installed soon,” said Hon. Wetang’ula.
He noted that colapse of the factory had subjected farmers from the region to suffering as their main source of livelihood stalled.
He added: “Soon you’re going to see Nzoia Sugar factory resume its crushing activities and meet it’s capacity for the benefit of farmers and employees.”
The Speaker was addressing mourners during the funeral services for Mr. Clement Wanyonyi Kimuna in Kabuchai constituency, Bungoma County.
The Speaker announced that plans for President the Dr.William Ruto’s visit to the county have been finalized and the Head of State will conduct a two-day development tour of the region.
He added that, during the visit that will be held in two weeks time, the president will tour the Nzoia Sugar factory to commission installation of the new mill.
“The president is scheduled to commission completion of tarmacking of three major roads. He will commission tarmacking of a new one too,” he explained.
The roads that tarmacking work had stalled and are set for revival include Misikhu-Bragadier and Bragadier-Naitiri.
Others are, Musikoma- Nambacha that links Bungoma and Kakamega counties and the new Kuywa-Kaptateni linking Kabuchai and Mt. Elgon sub counties.
Speaker Wetang’ula noted that these were among the many development projects that the president will ensure that are initiated across Western to spur economic growth of the region.
He added President Ruto’s government was committed to dealing with the high cost of living.
“The president has decided to implement long-term measures to deal with high cost of living away from short term strategies that the former regime had initiated and were not sustainable,” he added.
Hon. Wetang’ula called on leaders to put their political affiliations aside and support the president to cushion citizens from the high cost of living.
