According to the Head of State, the attendees will gain access to a free 16-unit course worth Ksh.100,000 each that the government has paid for. All the attendees needed to do was scan QR codes at the stadium to start the course.
The courses are provided by the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University which offers programs designed to prepare students to navigate the dynamic digital world.
“As promised, everyone present in this stadium today will get a free scholarship on global entrepreneurship and innovation from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University,” President Ruto said.
“It is now time to keep the promise. There is a QR Code near you. Scan and access the scholarship now. A 16-unit course that would have cost you Ksh.100,000, is now accessible to you for free, courtesy of the Innovation Jamhuri,”
Despite the fanfare surrounding the Head of State’s declaration, a similar program dubbed ‘Jitume’ already exists under the Konza Innovation Ecosystem Initiative.
The Francis and Dionne Najafi 100 million Learners Global Initiative, which offers foundational, immediate, and advanced courses, was launched on January 20, 2022.
The program aims to provide one million learners worldwide with free skills from world-class accredited institutions in 40 different languages.
The program, which aims to graduate 10,000 learners per year, seeks to reduce Kenya’s current unemployment rate which stood at 10.4 per cent in 2020.
