Following a grisly road accident in Ngeria, Eldoret Town, three people have finally been confirmed dead.
This is after the earlier accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a truck, while the truck was heading to Eldoret town and the Nissan was from the town towards the other direction.
Pictures seen by this publication showed that the accident was so severe, with traces of blood seen on the 14-seater matatu.
These two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision and veered off the road thereby landing in a ditch.
Recent data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicates that 2,696 people have died over this period this year compared to 2,490 over a similar period last year.
Of these alarming numbers, pedestrians still account for the highest casualties at 957 followed by motorcyclists at 741 at number two.
These pedestrian victims represent a 12.7 percent increase from last year’s 849 while 6.1 percent (741) more motorcyclists have died this year as of July compared to 698 in 2021.
As to the statistics, passengers recorded the highest jump in fatalities of 18 percent from 399 recorded last year to 471 listed this year.
The number of fatalities in pillion passengers recorded the least increase (2.94%) from 238 recorded last year to 245 recorded this year as of last month.
