School Girl Who Went Shopping with ‘Strange’ Eco-Friendly Bag Named NEMA Ambassador

Last week, one Hilda Gacheri made headlines after photos of her shopping spree with a makeshift shopping bag went viral.

The Materi Girls student improvised with a bag made from banana barks following the government’s ban on plastic bags.

As a result, Kenyans on social media platforms lauded her and called on NEMA to at least recognize her. Well, Kenyans will be pleased to know that the environment body has heeded to their calls.

A team from National Environmental and Management Authority paid her a visit and named her NEMA Environment Ambassador.

They also presented the form three student with a better bag for future use.

The NEMA team further held talks with the school’s administration during which they asked the school to do a background check on Hilda so that they could accord her financial assistance.

She is now being dubbed the new Wangari Maathai.
