Nevada’s famous Las Vegas “Sin City” is known for its tolerance of taboo activities. And now they’ve added recreational of marijuana to their list of vices available in the city!

On Saturday, July 1, Nevada legalized the sale and recreational use of cannabis, reports the Las Vegas Sun. This makes Nevada the fifth American state to make weed legal after Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

Anyway, over age 21 can now purchase cannabis. But the quantity cannot exceed 28 grams per day (3.5 grams for liquids). It is still illegal to smoke in the street, and selling to minors or driving while under the influence of cannabis.

Local Democratic Senator Tick Segerblom, a big proponent of legalization, said he expected the state to make one million dollars over the weekend.

“This is a game-changer for Las Vegas and tourism here as far as I’m concerned.”

Thirty-eight dispensaries have already opened in “Sin City” and long lines formed in front of them all weekend, as you can see below.

Some people are skeptical about legalized pot. But supporters say the state’s booming year-round tourism industry will see even more of a boost. And legal pot sales will draw sizable tax revenue.

What we’re experiencing right here and now is history,” Ross Goodman, Oscar’s son, said Saturday morning.

Last year, a record 43 million people visited Las Vegas. Generating nearly $52 billion, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Marijuana supporters believe legalisation means even bigger bucks for the state. And are quick to point out that cash from a 15% cultivation tax, and 10% sales tax will go toward schools and the state’s reserve fund.
