The Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Wangari Karua have shared their message of condolences to families that lost their immediate family members in the River Nithi road accident yesterday.
In a joint statement, the duo through their presidential campaign spokesperson Makau Mutua, also wished quick recovery to victims who are undergoing treatment in hospitals for the accident.
“On behalf of our campaign, the Azimio La Umoja coalition party flagbearer Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua send their deepest condolences to all those who have lost family, friends, and loved ones in the very unfortunate and tragic accident,” the statement by Mutua stated.
“To those still fighting for their lives in hospital, we pray that they get a speedy recovery and we thank the medical personnel attending to them. This is a difficult moment for these families and our campaign prays for them to get comfort and fortitude.”
They at the same time asked motorists to maintain decorum while plying various routes in Kenya currently.
Their messages come even as the death toll of the accident rises to 34 people.
Modern Coast bus was involved in an accident at the Nithi River bridge blackspot, while the bus was on its way to Mombasa from Maua Meru at the time of the accident.
The Tharaka Nithi county commissioner Robert Komora has confirmed that 34 had died while 10 are being treated with serious injuries.
