Following his yesterday’s debate on national television, the Jubilee party now says that Kenya Kwanza deputy running mate Rigathi Gachagua wants power to settle scores with the head of state Uhuru Kenyatta.
Through a statement issued on Wednesday, July 20, Jubilee lauded Martha Karua for remaining calm and articulating issues despite being provoked by Gachagua during the debate yesterday.
“Well done Mama Martha Karua in a debate where the opponent’s agenda was to provoke you & attack individuals, you remained calm, composed & articulate. The opponent made it clear that they only want the power to settle scores against the President & to free up proceeds of corruption so that he can finish his mansion and host keshas.
“You, on the other hand, made it clear that the Azimio/OKA coalition is about social justice, social protection of the vulnerable, economic recovery & the well-being of Kenyans. On who holds the biggest grudges, he won hands down. On who cares about Kenyans, who has a grasp of issues affecting mwananchi, you won. You won Kenyans heart, you won, Karua,” Jubilee said in a statement.
This is after during the debate held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) on Tuesday, July 19, Gachagua launched a scathing attack against the first family and President Uhuru Kenyatta in particular.
Mr. Gachagua brandished what he termed a gazette notice during the debate and sensationally accused President Kenyatta of using his powers to exempt the “first family of paying Sh350 million in a merger of two banks.”
“Through a gazette notice and by a single signature, two companies owned by the first family were exempted from paying Sh350 million. Money that can put up 35 level three hospitals in Kenya. That is chronic corruption.
“That’s conflict of interest and State capture. The real corruption that we need to deal with is State capture,” Mr. Gachagua said.
Mr. Gachagua also alleged that President Kenyatta would have sacked his deputy William Ruto and replaced him with Kanu chairman Mr. Gideon Moi in the cause of his duty.
